On change
sustainabilityWhen the Pain of Not Changing Is Greater Than the Pain of Changing, People Change. There are multiple sources of pain. Some are physical (hunger, war, violence) and some are emotional/psychological/economic (political pressure, boycotts, protests, peer pressure). Sometimes the equation is not based on great-pain-in-stasis but on great-delight-in-change.
We all need to change, and we all need others (people, governments, corporations, systems) to change. So:
Change yourself, even if it hurts, but do your best to enjoy it. With integrity, don't hide that you enjoy it. Find creative ways of making the change awesome, and thereby less painful than the drudgery of the status quo. Walk down the path of greater resistance, and relish how beautiful it is to slow down and stop and smell the pine needles and the mushrooms and the sea air and the humus and, as it may happen, the roses.
And when necessary, be the thorn in the side of the people/governments/corporations/systems that need to change. But don't spend all your time being a thorn, because no-one likes a thorn.
Enjoy.
